①英語の丁寧語について

 

ある人は

英語には丁寧語が無いと言います。

しかし、実際は

存在します。

ここも誤解される方が

多くいらっしゃいますね。

特にcan you ～？

の文。

私は未だになぜ義務教育は

学生にこの文を根付かせたのか、

理解ができません。

普通に考えて、

Can you speak english ?

って失礼すぎると思いませんか？！

ネイティブの世界は

よっぽど使いません。

小さい子供に対して、

「ぼく、英語話せるかな？」

というイメージです。

Can you speak English ？

は使いがちだと思うのですが、

より正しい使い方は

Do you speak English ？です。

みなさんは後者の文を

使って下さいね！！！

話を戻しますが、

英語は日本語の様に

尊敬・謙遜など体系だった

敬語はありませんが、

相手との距離感に

応じた、丁寧な表現

というものが存在します。

これを意識してください。

まず、Can you speak English ？

が相手にとって失礼である

ということが分かれば、

失礼である使い方、距離感

であるというのが

分かりましたよね？

これをまた、

沢山英語に触れて

増やしていきましょう。

いずれ海外で働きたい人・

会社の上司が外国人という人は、

特に丁寧な表現を使いこなせるように

したいところ。

フランクな言葉と丁寧な言葉を

使い分けることができれば、

あなたの英語力がさらに

アップすること間違いありません！

呼びかけ編＜sir , ma'am ＞

相手への呼びかけで一般的なのは

「Mr./Mrs. + 名前」ですが、

相手の名前がわからない場合には

“sir（男性）” “ma'am（女性）” を使います。

比較的に若い方に対してだと、

"Mr.（男の子）""Miss（女の子）"

しかし、注意点があります。

それは言い方によっては、

相手の気分を害す可能性があるという事。

それは日本語も同じですよね。

例えば、見た目が確かに４０代の方に

「おばさん」というよりかは

「お姉さん」と呼んだ方がいいのかもしれません。

非常に難しいお題です。

しかし、私は基本的には

sir , ma'am , Mr , Miss 

しか使わなかったですね。

基本的にはこの４つで

十分です。

他のもまぁ参考程度に

覚えていて欲しいですが

いくつか例文を上げるので、

感覚だけ掴んでおいてください。

• May I help you, sir?
• Sir, what should I do today?
• Excuse me, sir, may I have your name, please?

• Ma’am, is there a problem?
• May I take your size , ma'am ?

・Excuse me , Mr . can I ask some question ?

・Miss , did you go outside ？

思われがちだけど、

こうゆう風に表現できたら

英語にはだんだん慣れて

来ましたか？

英語を英語で学ぶことによって、

英語のニュアンスをそのまま

味わえる、英語脳を

鍛えられるという

メリットがあります。

（メリットという表現よりも、

私は英語を英語で学ぶことを

マストにしてほしいですが…）

徐々にネイティブへの魔法に

掛かって頂きたいと思います。

DoとMakeの使い分けについて

学んでいきましょう！

When should you use ‘do’ and ‘make’? The two common words can be confusing to language learners, and that’s why today we’re going to look at the differences and practise using the words!

How to use do

We use the verb ‘do’ when someone is working, or performing jobs and tasks that do not produce a physical object.     
     Mum! Can you help me do my homework?
     I have to do my job.
     She’s doing exercise.

We use ‘do’ when talking about activities in general.
     We’re not doing anything tomorrow night!
     I have done nothing all day.
     Do you want to do something on Thursday?

You can also use ‘do’ informally to replace a verb with an obvious meaning.
      I have to do my hair before dinner. (I have to style my hair before dinner.)
      He’s doing the laundry. (He’s washing the laundry.)
      Can you do the dishes, please? (Can you wash the dishes, please?)

How to use make

‘Make’ is typically used for actions that involve some kind of creation or production.
      This wine is made in France.
      Her bedroom door is made of wood.
      My clothes are handmade.

Food and meals are usually described using ‘make’
      I’m making lunch.
      Will you make a cake for John’s birthday?
      He’s making coffee right now.

‘Make’ can also be used for a produced action or reaction, including sounds and plans and decisions
     My parents made me clean my room.
     That movie makes my mother cry.
     I heard you make that noise.
     Have you made the dinner reservation?
     I hope you make a lot of friends this summer!
